Eccentric pigmentation

36-year-old woman with an atypical pigmented lesion on her left leg

Demoscopy revealed:

• an eccentric hyperpigmentation
• an atypical reticular network
• pseudopods

Pathology revealed a superficial spreading melanoma with Breslow index at 0.25 mm

Black lesion.

A 25-year-old woman consulted for a dark pigmented lesion on her abdomen

Dermoscopy revealed:

• asymmetry of form
• a central blotch
• regular pseudopods

Pathology was in favor of melanocytic Spitz nevus

A black tumor on a thigh.

A 52 -year-old woman consulted for her moles. Examination revealed this little ugly duckling on her left thigh.

Dermoscopy revealed:

• irregular colours
• a blue white veil
• irregular pseudopods

in favor of a spitzoïd melanoma

Pectoral lesion

A 52-year-old man presented this pectoral lesion. No clinical history was available.

Dermoscopy revealed:

• multiple colours
• a multi-component pattern
• an atypical reticular pattern
• some pseudopods 
• irregular blotches
• regression areas

Pathology confirmed the diagnosis of superficial spreading melanoma.

 

A 25-year-old man consulted presented a pigmented lesion on his back (lumbar area).

 

Dermoscopy revealed:

• a réticular pattern
• irregular streaks (pseudopods)

in favor of a Spitz nevus which was confirmed after excision.

Superficial spreading melanoma on an arm

A 31-year-old man consulted for this pigmented lesion on his right arm.

Dermoscopy revealed pigmented lesion with the following dermoscopic signs:

• asymmetry of colors and shape
• regression area: depigmentation (black rectangle ) and blue gray dots (peppering) (yellow circle)
• atypical reticular network (brown rectangle)
• pseudopods (red arrow)

This lesion was excised and pathology confirmed the diagnosis of superficial spreading melanoma. Breslow index was 0,48 mm.

Spitz nevus

A 23-year-old woman consulted for this pigmented lesion in her back.

Its history was unclear.

Clinically this lesion was an ugly duckling by comparison with other moles she had.

Dermoscopy revealed a reticular pattern, irregular globules especially visible at the periphery and some pseudopods.

Dermoscopic presentation was in favor of a Spitz nevus.

The lesion was excised and pathology confirmed the diagnosis.

Pseudopods

A 60-year-old man presented a nodular pigmented tumor on his chest. Dermoscopy revealed a pigment network at the periphery with many pseudopods (white circle), irregular dots and globules at 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock, and a blue white veil. The lesion was excised and pathology revealed superficial spreading melanoma with a Breslow index at 1.5mm and a Clark level II.

Starburst pattern

A 10-year-old girl consulted for this black lesion on her back.
Dermoscopy revealed a typical regular starburst pattern with pseudopods regularly distributed at the periphery in favor of a benign Reed nevus.
A regular follow-up was planned.

Spitz nevus

A 47-year-old woman consulted for a a slowly enlarging pigmented lesion of her right wrist for 3 months.


Dermoscopy (x20) revealed regular streaks throughout the lesion (pseudopods and radial streaming) with a symmetrical starburst pattern.

Because of the age of the patient and the rapid enlargement, the lesion was removed.

Pathology revealed a Spitz nevus
