Basal cell carcinoma


A 72-year-old woman consulted for this nodular lesion on her nose.
The lesion was clinically suggestive of a basal cell carcinoma.













Dermoscopy confirmed easily the clinical diagnosis showing arborizing vesels and multiple blue-gray globules

Melanoma with regression

A 62-year-old patient with a superficial spreading melanoma on his right shoulder.








Dermoscopy (x20) revealed white areas (scar-like depigmentation) and delicate peppering.

Bowen's disease


A 84-year-old woman presented a keratotic erythematous lesion of her right leg.



Dermoscopy revealed scales many glomerular vessels in favor of a Bowen's disease.
See the glomerular vessels. The pressure of the dermoscope has to be slight not to empty the vessels. Polarized dermoscopy is more performing than contact immersion dermoscopy to see accurately vessels.

Superficial spreading melanoma


A 61-year-old man consulted for this lesion located on his trunk (lateral left side).







Dermoscopy revealed an atypical reticular pattern, with thickened and broken net, regression structures, with blue pepper-like granules.
The lesion was removed and pathology revealed a superficial spreading melanoma (SSM) with Breslow index mesured at 0,6mm.
No metastases were detected.

Bowen's disease

A 75-year-old woman consulted for an enlarging red tumor of her right ankle.

Dermoscopy (x20) revealed numerous glomerular vessels in favor of a Bowen's disease.

A biopsy was performed and pathology confirmed the diagnosis.

Basal cell carcinoma


A 56-year-old man consulted for a slowly enlarging lesion of his right temple.






Dermoscopy revealed multiple blue gray globules in favor of a basal cell carcinoma.In this case , blue gray globules are the only suggestive dermoscopic signs of basal cell carcinoma.

A biopsy was performed and confirmed the diagnosis.

Ink spot lentigo




A 32-year-old man with heavy regular sun exposure, consulted for a dark pigmented lesion of his back.
The skin was covered of many sun lentigines and freckles.


Dermoscopy showed an asymmetric thick regular pattern.






The broken up network pattern was typical of a ink spot lentigo.

Sebaceous hyperplasia


A 51-year-old woman consulted for yellowish- whitish papular lesions on her forehead.













Dermoscopy showed aggregated white-yellow nodules (see white circles), surrounded by branching vessels that extend towards the center of the lesion without crossing it: these crown vessels (radial wreath-like) are typical of the vessels observed in sebaceous hyperplasia.



















Aggregated white-yellow nodules and crown vessels ( radial wreath-like) are the 2 key signs for dermoscopic diagnosis of a sebaceous hyperplasia.

Enlarging nevus


A 13-year-old girl consulted for a scapular enlarging nevus at the end of summer.


In dermoscopy (x20), the lesion was well defined, with a symetric globular pattern.

The main sign was a symetric peripheral rim of globules, suggestive of a benign enlarging nevus.

The management consisted in a yearly follow-up.

A 50-year-old woman consulted for an a assymetric pigmented lesion on her back.










Typical blue white veil
and peripheral streaks
The lesion was removed and pathology revealed a superficial spreading melanoma with a Breslow index at 1.09 mm
