A whitish lesion




A 48-year-old woman consulted for a whitish scar-like lesion on her back.  


Clinical picture: whitish scar-like lesion with a pigmented border. Patient has a background of former heavy sun exposure.


At dermoscopy:
  • no signs in favor of a melanocytic lesion
  • a structureless  scar-like white pattern
  • pinkish areas without any vascular structures
  • a peripheral pigmentation (red square) in favor of leaf-like areas
Pathology revealed a superficial basal cell carcinoma

A 29-year-old woman consulted for  a small pigmented lesion on her right leg.


Dermoscopy revealed

  • spoke wheel areas
Pathology revealed a superficial basal cell carcinoma

Blue nodule


A 53-year patient consulted for this enlarging temporal  blue nodule.


Dermoscopy revealed a blue homogeneous pattern and some barely visible arborizing tree vessels in favour of a basal cell carcinoma.
This lesion was excised and pathology confirmed the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma.

The almost entire area of this basal carcinoma was pigmented: arborizing vessels are seen in the upper right quadrant.

Pigmented basal cell carcinoma

A 67-year-old man consulted for a pigmented tumor on his right forearm. Dermoscopy revealed a central ulceration, arborizing blood vessels and blue ovoid nests. The lesion was excised and pathology confirmed the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma.

Basal cell carcinoma


Nodular lesion located on the neck.
Dermoscopy revealed multiple blue gray globules and arborizing telangiectasia in favor of basal cell carcinoma. The lesion was excised and pathology confirmed the diagnosis.
